Supporting Teaching and Learning: Updates on ARC4 and Aire Transition
Patricia Ternes
We have heard and carefully considered the concerns raised by academics and students regarding the potential impact of the HPC migration on teaching activities and master’s projects. We understand the anxiety that uncertainty can bring, especially for students managing tight deadlines and high expectations. In response, we are taking action to ensure stability and continuity during this transitional period.
ARC4 Teaching Nodes to Remain Active Until End of Term 3
To address these concerns, we will keep the teaching nodes on ARC4 operational until the end of Term 3 on 20th June 2025. This decision provides a reliable environment for teaching activities and ensures minimal disruption to students’ work.
Please note:
- The teaching nodes on ARC4 are private and require access approval (you can request via this form)
- Supervisors’ approval is mandatory for student access.
- The available teaching nodes are:
fbs-teaching
,feps-teaching
,chemteach
, andphysicsteach
.
Transitioning to Aire for Teaching
Our new HPC system, Aire, will become available much earlier than the above date. This extended period provides an opportunity for:
- Early Transition: Academics can choose to transition teaching activities to Aire as soon as it becomes available.
- Preparation and Testing: The overlap period allows for updates to training materials, application installations, and testing, ensuring a smooth transition to Aire.
This dual approach ensures that current students experience continuity while academics have sufficient time to adapt and prepare for the new system.
We are committed to supporting staff and students throughout this process. Regular updates will be shared as Aire becomes ready for teaching use.
Please add any comments or questions to the Teams Channel and we will continue to keep you updated.
